Winter Handicap 8 Jan 2012: Fitzwilliam C.P.

Great start to the year

With 50 club members involved, either running or marshalling, the handicap series has got off to a brilliant start. The morning was dry and for a change the wind wasn't blowing making for good race conditions. Runners were started in time bands according to expected finish times for the 6 mile course.
Ruth Saville had the task of starting first, all by herself... she was the hare for the hounds to chase! Unfortunately for all the hounds, this hare wasn't going to be caught and Ruth crossed the finish line first with all pre-race nerves disipated. In second place (and second home) was Isobel Disney who was just 8 seconds off pipping Ruth for top spot. Third place (and third finisher) went to Julie Morgan who only the day before ran a pb at Pontefract parkrun.

Ladies took the first 6 places, testament to the hard work many have put in over the last few weeks (handicap revisions to follow). First man in 7th position was Graham Charnock - we expect great things from him at the next cross country). Unfortunately we didn't get a great photo of Graham, but if you see a good looking guy at the club...its not him.

Thanks to all our marshalls, timekeepers, recorders

Thanks to our 9 volunteers on the day who managed to get everyone off on time and safely back. All these guys get 50 points for the series competition - which after 1 race puts them well up the table! However, if they want more points, they have to run - only 1 set of marshal points count. I'm sure some will be thinking ahead to the last race in the series - the Multi- terrain when marshalling might be the better option to secure the title! May need a rule amendment?
