Due to the high numbers turning out on training nights there is pressure on the Angel pub car park. Clearly we have to ensure that there is enough parking for pub customers, particularly those wanting to eat at around the time we commence training. Could you please not use the spaces at the front of the car park and use alternative on street parking closeby.
A warm welcome back to active club involvement to Colin Tanswell as Honorary Secretary. He has succeeded Ron Dyson who stepped down at the AGM after sterling service. Colin has been a keen and successful runner and founded the club in 1985. He has remained a club member throughout but now keeps fit through cycling as its easier on his knees.

The day started at 8:30 when our advance party met at Fitzwilliam to set out the course and erect the registration gazebo. The blustery wind was to prove almost as much of a problem as it was to the runners later on in the morning. Luckily nothing and no-one was blown away. After a little hiccup in the second junior race when an impromptu shortened course was run, the main event went really well. The turnout of around 380 runners was we believe a Peco record. The competition was strong, whether at the head of the race, in the middle or towards the rear. We had a very good turnout out, from the experienced to those enjoying their first XC experience. The course was demanding, especially in the blustery conditions, but runners from all clubs appeared to enjoy it.
We finished our last financial year (31 August) with 111 paid up members. Since 1 September we have had a further 22 new members - hopefully our numbers will continue to grow.

Subscriptions for 2011/12 now due - £18 (£13 second claim)
Get prepared for Winter with some new Club kit. We have an excellent stock of club vests, hoodies and jackets available priced at £12.50 / £15.00 / £28.00 respectively - available from Ruth Maclean - or contact any committee member.
Next year the format will remain the same with 12 races to choose from and the best 10 scores to count. There will not be any of the club handicap runs included, however, as we hope to have a new competition to cover all 4 handicap events.
We have included some 'new' races and have 'dropped' others, mainly due to dates clashing with other events. Races for the first 5 months are confirmed, those for the rest of the year are provisional, at present.
Feb 5th - Dewsbury 10k (entry now open)

March 18th - South Yokshire Half (Dearne Valley, Manvers)

July 11th? Doncaster Town Centre 5k
August 12th? Askern 10m

Trunce Series (best time to count)
We now have 30 members looking forward to receiving their grading awards based on the average of performances achieved over the three distances of 10k, 10m and Half Marathon. We have 7 levels of achievement again this year with two members currently achieving the top award. Trevor Nichol's average stands at 80.2% and Martyn Stearn's now 77.21% - reflecting their excellent results this year.
The first of our 4 handicap races will start at Fitzwilliam Country Park, the same venue as the first cross country. Runners will set off in stages based on their expected run time with the fastest setting off last. The first will start at 10:15. We are hoping to make arrangements to use the nearby Club for nibbles and drinks afterwards.
In addition to recognising the winners of each handicap race, we will be running a competition based on the results of all 4 races. For this new competition, each runner will be given a target time equivalent to their handicap time plus 1 minute. Each finisher will be given 20 points plus 1 point for each 2 seconds they beat their target time, subject to a maximum run total of 125 points (equivalent to 2m 30 secs better than handicap time). Where there is insufficient data to assess a handicap time for any runner, they will be allocated an estimated handicap and awarded 50 points for that run and their time will not be used in determining the winners of that event.
Clearly we need marshalls to run each event and in order not to unduly penalise those who volunteer, they will be allocated 50 points for that event. Only 1 set of marshall points will count towards the series total!
Handicap times are currently being re-assessed and will be published shortly. They will be based on average pace times for 10k/5ks and handicap runs during 2011, ignoring any 'social' runs and 'more extreme' races. Times will be re-assessed before each handicap race taking into account additional 'pace' information since the previous event. For those members where there is insufficient data available, they will receive an estimated handicap based on "best guess".

This was the 4th running of this excellent event held along the trails in Sherwood Forest starting near the Visitor Centre. The facilities are spot on with access to toilets, cafe and craft shops. Most of our team managed to park right by the finish line. The course was surprisingly very dry as was the weather and even the sun came out. The post race picnic and drinks went down a treat and we stayed longer than most competitors. One lady passing by thought it was a car boot sale!

17 turned up for the New Years Day run along the Winter Handicap course - one or two with a hangover! Anyone wanting to run on the bank holiday Monday at Wintersett - turn up at 9am - there are already a number turning up.
There was a really good turnout of 86 runners, some in fancy dress and many there for the first time. Unfortunatley there were problems with the timing and bar code thingy's so we had to resort to pen and paper. Sod's law, even the biro ran out! However, results were produced by early afternoon. Two new pbs were recorded; Darren Horobin (21:33, a 22sec. improvement) and Julie Morgan (28:10, a 20 sec. improvement). Trevor Nichol was the first club member home and Maria McSanta -Leach the first lady.

New FS 5k best by Lynne Sedgwick on 17 December (parkrun) and new M40 10m time for Craig Tipton at Stockport on 10 December
Another busy month for the club with 73 members taking to the roads, trails and hills covering 910 miles and 169 races. Surorisingly no marathons or half marathons were run...unless anyone knows different. As usual Adrian and Maria were the most active both racing 8 times, covering just under 40 miles., whilst Mel Owen raced in 6 events. 18 members raced at least 4 times. By the end of the year we will have more than doubled the racing activity in 2010. We must be helpong the economy if only in buying trainers!
Going into the last month of the year and its as before with the race leaders. Adrian Leach has now run out of mainland Britain and is 10 miles out to sea on his way to the Orkneys. Has Maria missed the boat altogether as she has 20 miles to go to reach Thurso? Barry Sinar and Martyn Stearn are 6th and 7th to reach Edinburgh Castle, Barry having found a few 'missing' races. Stewart Haigh and Gail Wrangles could still make it, although they could be looking for New Year's Eve races! 112 people have now run at least 1 race as a club member this year.
Well it went down to the wire with much depending on the last event (Abbey Dash). The results have to be redone after discovering that Craig Tipton had managed to get his and his son's chips mixed up.
