Handicap Series 2012

There are 4 races in the year, one for each season to provide a variety of conditions. They are open to all club members and the handicap system will hopefully allow everyone to compete on a "level playing field" basis.

Winter Handicap: Sunday 8 January
Spring handicap: Wed. eve. 28 March (tbc)
Summer Handicap: End of June
Autumn Multi-terrain Handicap - (date tbc).

The Spring and Summer Handicaps are held jointly with our friends at Goole Viking Striders -on an away and home basis.

Trophies are awarded for each event to the first man and first woman performing best relative to their target time. In addition the best performance overall in the Winter event will hold the Phil Ryder Memorial Shield for a year and the Multi-terrain winner, the Alan Richardson Memorial Shield

Series Competition

This year we have introduced a new competition based on results from all 4 events. Points will be awarded at each event with the overall winner being the person with the highest combined score over the 4 events.
Scoring is achieved as follows:

20 points for competing +
1 point for every 2 seconds you are under your target time (half points will count).

Those given an estimated time will be allocated 50 points for the event. They will be allocated a handicap time for subsequent events.

Marshalls will be allocated 50 points (only 1 set of marshall points in the series).

A points table will be published after each run.

Handicaps

Handicap target times will be based on an individuals pace per mile for a 10k multiplied by the event distance, plus 1 minute. 2011 race performances will initially be used with an emphasis on 10k times wherever possible. Times which are clearly slower than average, due to the nature of the course, injuries sustained, or 'social' running', have been disregarded. Clearly the amount of data held on individuals varies, especially for newer members. Where there is simply insufficient data for anyone, an estimated pace time will be used, however, they will not be eligible for trophies for that particular event.
Handicaps will be reviewed prior to each event
