We meet in the Anglers Country Park car park at Wintersett (brown signs indicate a mixture of Waterton Discovery Centre/Haw Park / Anglers Country Park - the car park serves all three.
From the car park it follows the roadway (a bit mud covered) which becomes a track leading down to Haw Park Wood. A short distance into the wood, turn left to follow a wide track close to the edge of the wood. Keep left where the track splits, then keep to the main wide track as it leads downhill bending to the right then the left. Continue on the track to the small bridge over the disused canal.
Immediately after crossing the bridge turn right onto the former towpath. You now have a lovely flat path for about 2 miles - its relatively narrow so watch out for bikes and pedestrians. Keep on the towpath when reaching Waterton Park Golf Course/Hotel road, going under the bridge and passing the Club House on your left.
The towpath ends when it reaches the main road (Shay Lane) almost opposite the Cherry Tree pub. Turn left along the main road until reaching a mini roundabout within 1/4 mile. Turn left up 'The Balk'. Continue along the road to the top and then follow it round the right hand bend. (DON'T take the private drive to Waterton Park Hotel and Golf Course which is straight ahead)
The road becomes narrower and then becomes a wide track. A bit of an uphill then it bends to the left. Follow this as it crosses over the disused canal and bends sharp right opposite the entrance to a house. Keep on this wide track - don't follow the narrower track which leads off to the left at the wall corner.
Keep on the path into the wood - bit of a hill until it reaches a bit of a clearing! Take the path straight ahead - passing a lage 'tree' bench. on your left. The path bears left (narrower path off to the right - ignore). As you approach the edge of the wood, follow the path to your left then at the major path junction turn right to exit the wood. Follow the track/road back to the car park.
As in the Winter Handicap, runners will be set off according to their target run time with the aim being for all to finish at about 11:15. For example if your are set a target pace of 10 minute miles your run time will be 56 minutes and your start time would therefore be 10:19. If slower you would start earlier, if faster later.
It is anticipated that the first runners will start at around 9:45, the last at around 10:40.
A list of start times will be published shortly.
You need to arrive at the car park at least 15 minutes prior to your start time to register. If its a sunny morning the car park gets busy so please give yourself plenty of time and car share where possible.
There are toilets and a cafe adjacent to the car park.
